Example of how my day went and why I’m so exhausted right now.

I came back to the office from seeing patients and went to start on the files on my desk… When I heard the voice.

The voice belonged to a particularly manic and egocentric woman with severe paranoia. I’ve spoken… Well heard her a few times and would recognize it anywhere. She fire calls as if to have a conversation regarding patient care but ends up ranting about irrelevant events in her own life (much of which I’m skeptical about) and then abruptly ends it with ‘Okay-well-I-have-to-go-BYE.’

My manager gave me a wide-eyed look when she saw me come in. The woman had her sitting in her office talking the entire time I was on the floors.

‘Kim! I know we have that two o’clock meeting. Give me five minutes?’ *wink*

‘Okay, no problem. I’ll be right back.’

It was five past two already and there never was a meeting. This woman just wouldn’t leave. In fact, when I came back in five minutes later, she was still trying to get my manager to have tea with her.

Written Pensieve

I’ve been advised by my Healers to write down my issues because I tend to push them out of my mind before I can relay it to them. They’ll keep coming up. I need to remember what they are and tackle it before it becomes a problem.

The trouble with Pensieves is that they can only show what happens physically. I need to heal mentally. Flashing thoughts can’t be seen in a Pensieve.

My grandmother gave me a leather journal as part of her Christmas gift.

Looks like I’ll be putting it to better use than I had imagined.

i’ve found peer to peer couseling and group counseling to be very helpful..maybe even more than one on one therapy…i would recommend it!

jamezh a répondu à votre question : Personal question?
Why not try it and see? If its not for you then you’re not a quitter, it just means that particular type of therapy isn’t the right one :)

Responses?

Thank you for the advice! It means a lot to me. I think I’m going to try it. It’s worth a shot.

Personal question?

Should I join group? As in group therapy. As in… at my mental health facility. So far, I’ve declined. Mostly because I’m busy. But I’m able to work it into my schedule now. So my question is… Should I do it? I don’t want to jump into it and then quit. Should I commit to this?

I’ve been doing well with one-on-one sessions with my doctors for almost two years. Now I’ve come to a point where the progress has slowed and I know how to cope, I’m just not doing it as well anymore. Maybe I’m tired of it. Maybe it’d help to talk to others, maybe not. I don’t know. I’ve never tried before.

I’ve been in and out my whole life and never have I participated in group. It’s been recommended to me once again and I’m now considering.

Try something new or push myself harder?

Opinions?

Stupid cochlea.

I have cochlear damage. Therefore, I can’t hear that well. I can hear things like anyone else can, but at lower volume and sometimes it’s like there’s a wall between the source and my ears. On a bad day, sounds are muffled. On a good day, I miss a few words every now and then. Most of the time, I either figure out what’s been said or hear something so different I know I’ve misheard.

It’s not a secret, but it’s not obvious either. There’s nothing that can really be done and even amplifying sound doesn’t always work. That’s the thing with the cochlea. When damage is done, louder isn’t better. It’s just loud. I still can’t understand it. That’s not to say volume is never the problem. I’m better off reading lips and gestures than deciphering a whisper.

But my only complaint is when someone doesn’t understand. If I ask you to repeat something, it isn’t to be annoying. It’s because I honestly didn’t hear what you said. I’m not an attention starved four year old.

I have one co-worker that seemingly doesn’t believe me.

What I hear her say: I ….s … if… het… a……. ha!

Me: Sorry, what was that?

Her: You heard me!

Every. Single. Time.

No, I didn’t fucking hear you. Hence the request to repeat yourself. What I heard was not comprehensible to me and therefore I require it said again. I don’t get a kick out of it, it’s just as annoying to me as it is to others.

She acts like I’m ignoring her. If that were the case, I’d pretend I didn’t know you’d said anything at all. Idiot. Not give you a chance to keep talking.

When I tell her that, no, I truly didn’t hear what she said, she has the same response: ‘Yes you did!’

Okay, well. If that’s logical to you, I don’t see a point in continuing this conversation. At least I have an excuse for not being able to understand what’s been said.

Utmost Importance

My manager, whispering:
Kim. I want your honest opinion. *looks around*
Me:
... Okay. [Oh Merlin, this sounds serious. Why is she whispering?]
Manager as she sets her things down and sits next to me:
Be completely honest... Tell me what you think... *inhales*
Me:
[Is she firing whatsherface? What happened? What could I-]
Manager:
Do you think I should have straight fringe, to the side, or grow it out?
